Storage Principal Development Engineer

The Dell Enterprise Storage group is looking for a Storage Development Engineer to help accelerate our growing Software Defined Storage (SDS) Appliance business. This is an excellent opportunity
to help shape and deliver on a strategy to build broad use of Dell’s Enterprise SDS solutions directly with customers and our ecosystem of system integrators and solution providers. As a Storage Development Engineer within the Enterprise Storage group, you will work with Storage SDS Engineering teams, Server Development teams, and partners to define and develop Dell Storage appliances and SDS solution offerings.
Responsibilities Include:
· Lead an engineering team responsible for reviewing requirements, design, configuration, and validation of storage solutions that are based on Dell hardware and software, and include third-party software components.
· Manage relationship with third-party software vendors.
· Work with partners and internal development teams to approve design proposals, plan development tasks and program schedules, and define and execute comprehensive solution test plans.
· Support sales teams with developing solution designs and support product pilot programs.
· Analyze performance data to understand how various CPU, network I/O, storage, and memory resources and configurations impact representative IT and application workloads.
· Work with partners and internal teams to track and drive closure on product defects.
· Work with service teams to roll out product service training and develop deployment tools.
· Develop tools for sizing solution deployments and provide pre-sales reference architectures.
· Author solution product documents, including white papers and deployment guides.
QualificationsExperience Required:
· Knowledge of scale out storage technologies including NAS, iSCSI, Object Storage and Software Defined Storage solutions.
· Extensive knowledge of virtualization technologies such as ESXi, Hyper-V and KVM
· Network Infrastructure configuration and debugging experience (TCP/IP, HTTP, SMB, NFS, etc.)
· Expertise in enterprise server components, including storage controllers (RAID and HBAs), Ethernet adapters, memory subsystems, and Intel CPU architectures
· Systems performance characterization, including workload analysis, sizing and stress testing
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong team player. The ideal candidate must thrive in a team-centric environment
· Competency in basic scripting languages such as Bash, Python, PowerShell, etc.
· Programming experience is a strong plus
Bachelors’ degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering and 10+ years’ relevant experience.
