Job Description



The Engineering Technician IV performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents that are not fully applicable, such assignments that are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems. This incumbent may plan such assignments. This technician receives technical advice from supervisor or engineer. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy (or conformity with instructions).



Duties will include developing and revising Maintenance Instruction Documents, including Maintenance Standards and Test Procedures used in the continued operation and safety of the US Navy's nuclear submarine fleet. Candidate will be required to review Ship Systems Manuals, SUBSAFE Certification Boundary Books, SOC Notebooks, System Diagrams, Arrangement drawings, M&SWP reports, the DDGOS, the NSTM, Test Pressure Diagrams, and other relevant drawings or technical publications necessary to ensure the completeness and accuracy of information and data included in these documents (MIDs). Applicant may also review portions of production work documents for currency and accuracy of the use of Maintenance Standards excerpted into these documents (TGIs).



Required Skills



PC Skills including MS Office proficiency (with focus on Word and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat; Ability to read and understand CAD files and blueprints; Good technical writing ability; Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems, focusing on fluids (e.g. air, water, and hydraulics) and electrical motors, controllers, and cabling.



Desired Skills



Experience with documentation of building, testing, and/or overhauling electro-mechanical systems down to the component level is a plus. Experience gained by working in a company that has a Quality Management System (e.g. ISO 9000) is a plus. Experience gained while working on a private or US Naval Shipyard, or during active duty Military service, or by being a Merchant Marine a plus.

High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

Typically requires 4 years relevant experience without a Degree or Undergraduate Degree and at least 1 year relevant experience
