Information and Analytics Engineer

The Information and Analytics Engines function is responsible for acquiring, integrating, and aggregating data from a wide range of sources to support Product Intelligence (PI) analytical applications. The goal is to provide self-service access to data that is secure, timely, and accurate, along with helping team members in the Data Science Lab function within PI understand the data structure, lineage, and inherent business logic.

The Data Science Lab within the Product Intelligence team is responsible for solving the most complex and pressing business problems at Salesforce (SFDC). Data Scientists within the DSL are tasked with surfacing hidden relationships in our data, offering actionable metrics for decision-making, and turning seemingly unrelated ideas into powerful insights by leveraging advanced statistical and data mining techniques.



The IAE Engineer position will be responsible for designing, developing & maintaining all parts of the big data pipeline for statistical and machine learning computational requirements. This role involves making an impact by driving continuous improvements in moving, aggregating, profiling, sampling, testing and analyzing terabytes of data.

The IAE Engineer will work closely with various functional groups on projects involving data discovery, assessing data samples, massaging and preparing data for hypothesis testing and machine learning algorithms.

Responsibilities


  • Perform data discovery in enterprise data warehouse for the researched domain.

  • Support Data Sciences research by designing, developing & maintaining all parts of the big data pipeline for statistical and machine learning computational requirements.

  • Perform data profiling, complex sampling, statistical test and test of reliability on data.

  • Query Hadoop/Hive and Oracle EDW to provide data-sets for data scientists.

  • Able to identify incomplete data, improve normality, k-group splitting of continuous variables and perform transformations to improve normality.

  • Should feel comfortable with high-performance and high-throughput computing.

  • Endorse open source tools & techniques in development, management and release process. Utilize in house software effectively.

  • Harness operational excellence & continuous improvement with a can do leadership attitude.




Job Requirements

· BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering , Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, Econometrics or equivalent/related degree.

· 6+ years relevant experience with a proven track record with a focus on data discovery, data massaging, statistical sampling and profiling to analyze data.

· Experience with parallel processing and architectures for data gathering and data processing.

· Experience working with ETL in multi-terabyte data warehouses. Experience in dealing with performance and scaling issues with tools like DataStage, Informatica, KETL, Talend, etc.

· Experience in data profiling, complex sampling, statistical testing and performing test of reliability on enterprise data.


  • Expert knowledge of data modeling techniques and high-volume ETL design. Direct experience with modeling software (e.g. PowerDesigner, ERwin) required. MS Visio familiarity helpful.

  • Strong SQL optimization and performance tuning experience in a high volume data environment that utilizes parallel processing. Teradata platform experience a plus.

  • Experience with version control systems (Github, Subversion) and deployment tools (e.g. continuous integration) required.

  • Expert knowledge of Hadoop/MapReduce/Hive/Pig.

  • Expert knowledge working with business intelligence tools (MicroStrategy, Tableau).

  • Familiarity with Scrum/agile project management methodologies and SDLC stages required.

  • Hands-on on Salesforce.com knowledge of product and functionality a plus.


· Strong problem solving with acute attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines and project plans.

· Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and produce accurate results within reasonable turnaround times with iterative mindset with rapid prototyping designs.

· Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a highly dynamic environment with result oriented mindset.

· Ability to work effectively in an unstructured and fast-paced environment both independently and in a team setting and have a high degree of self-management with clear communication and commitment to delivery timelines.

· Above average capabilities with basic analysis tools of Microsoft Office suite.
