As a Legal Apprentice with a focus and/or a strong interest in Intellectual Property and Information Technology laws, you will be asked to undertake projects that involve research and analysis of issues such as follows:
- Issues related to privacy and personal information protection law, and how to address these issues regarding various products and terms of services.
- Issues related to intermediary liability laws and various legal issues that may trigger intermediary liability issues (such as defamation, copyright, trademark, privacy, freedom of speech).
- Issues related to competition and antitrust law.
- Any other related task that the in-house Legal Team may request during the Legal Apprenticeship.
You will produce high-quality legal research and analysis work in a flexible, fast-paced environment. You will need to demonstrate that you have sound legal judgment, can learn quickly in a fast-paced environment, and can communicate properly and confidently both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities
Minimum qualifications
- Must be enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters of Laws and maintaining student status throughout the internship.
- Be able to complete around 8 week (negotiable) at the Tokyo office between May and October 2014.
- Returning to education on a full-time basis upon completing the internship.
- Ability to speak and write in English and Japanese fluently and idiomatically.
Preferred qualifications
- Leadership role at university and/or external associations.
- Excellent analytical skills, with an ability to see both detail and big picture issues.
- Strategic problem solving/negotiation abilities.
- Strong interest in recent developments in the field of Internet related laws and online technologies and services.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
