Data Center Site Selection and Portfolio Program Manager

You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating goals to project stakeholders. Your projects often span offices, time zones and hemispheres, and it's your job to keep all the players coordinated on the project's progress and deadlines.



Google builds and operates one of the most sophisticated networks of cutting edge data centers in the world. As a Data Center Site Selection and Portfolio Program Manager, you will have a key role in helping to drive location strategy, site selection, portfolio management, and contract negotiations, for new and existing data centers and related infrastructure. You will also support the development of the company’s global energy portfolio strategy, including identifying and helping to negotiate industry leading renewable energy projects, to support the company’s goal to be 100% carbon neutral. This is a dynamic role, working closely with a broad network of internal stakeholders as well as strategic vendors worldwide, to support the growth of Google’s products and services, and to provide the infrastructure that will help expand the company’s global reach.



You will embody a unique combination of business financial, and technical sense. You will work with external suppliers, governments, contractors and internal teams to meet Google’s needs for next generation data center sites worldwide. You will support the negotiation of the commercial and technical terms as well as the legal contracts for land, buildings, utilities (including energy procurement) and all associated contracts. You are equally well versed in calculating complex financial models or drawing creative technical solutions on a white board. As a Data Center Site Selection Portfolio Program Manager, you will help to identify locations and sites of interest, establish contacts and build relationships with landowners, economic development officials, power companies, telecommunications companies and government officials. You will work closely with Google's Data Center Site Selection Negotiators to track and manage site selection project progress and to communicate status to stakeholders, as well as help to support procurement of both traditional sources of energy as well as green energy. As part of our global portfolio management and optimization efforts you will be responsible for mapping, tracking, and championing a broad range of compliance issues including site/infrastructure development milestone tracking, ad periodic economic development incentives compliance and reporting.



Responsibilities


  • Work with internal and external technical teams to identify, define, and pursue new site selection projects and initiatives necessary to meet Google's ongoing data center needs, including procurement of traditional and green energy for existing and new sites.

  • Provide project management and support for the site selection process from start to finish, monitoring progress against objectives, provide regular status reports, and build financial models to support quantitative analysis of both site and energy-related portfolio decisions.

  • Serve as the authoritative source of all information related to projects and ensure clear communication between all relevant internal and external parties.

  • Lead the mapping, tracking, and championing of a broad range of portfolio management issues including site/infrastructure development, and periodic economic development incentive compliance and reporting.

  • Participate in the negotiation of commercial terms with suppliers, and assist the legal contract review process.





  • Minimum qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in technology, science, economics or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3 years of experience with project management, financial modeling, analysis and strategic thinking.





  • Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with any of the following: site selection for high-technology, industrial-scale projects; experience with real estate evaluation, acquisition, development, and construction; utility contracts; economic development incentives, including legislative initiatives; taxation; energy-related issues, and clean energy initiatives; familiarity with power transmission and distribution; telecommunications infrastructure; data center technology; industrial class electrical and cooling technology; and/or other related areas of technical expertise.

  • The highest standards of business, ethics, discretion, and confidentiality.

  • Willing to travel up to 50% of the time.
