Director, North America Trade – Austin, TX
Reporting to the Executive Director, GTC (Global Trade Compliance), the Director leads the trade compliance program for Dell in North America. The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert with both operational and management experience. This role is responsible for ensuring that Dell’s cross-border operations to and from North America are conducted advantageously for Dell in a manner fully consistent with law. It will implement strategies to maximum duty savings, optimize customs cycle time performance, and ensure excellent performance by our brokerage providers. The role also will drive projects intended to transform the company’s trade infrastructure, including trade software implementation.
Beyond its North American responsibilities, this position also is a member of Dell’s strategic leadership team for Trade, and can expect to contribute to plans and projects affecting Dell operations around the globe. The role will serve as a partner to other functions in regional supply chain planning.
Responsibilities
-Ensures compliance with United States, Canadian and Mexican import/export compliance regulations. Provides trade compliance support for end-to-end order management and delivery processes including end user screening, new product and technology export reviews, product classification via Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) and Export Classification Control Number (ECCN), export transaction approvals, international documentation, and customs broker management.
-Ensures that function within region meets its objectives with respect to filing accuracy, cycle time, lawful duty avoidance, and other relevant metrics. Drives projects to maximize duty savings and optimize customs process cycle time by creating efficient import and export processes. Assesses trade risks and implements mitigation strategies. Leads projects across globe to transform trade operations to enhance efficiency and reduce cost.
-Provides tactical support in developing, enabling, and managing international supply chains with respect to implications around cross-border movements.
-Leads team of support professionals who complete necessary compliance and documentation requirements and maintains metrics around trade operations.
-Responsible for ensuring accuracy and accessibility of import and export documentation and electronic filings to ensure and demonstrate compliance to trade regulations and policies.
-Exhibit strong leadership competencies in terms of building effective relationships; inspiring team members to contribute their best efforts to Dell’s success; identifying, attracting and developing talent.
-Must be process-oriented, with a bias towards end-to-end process solutions.
Qualifications
Requirements
-10 years minimum experience in import/export compliance
-Detailed knowledge of North American customs regulations
-Knowledge of US export regulations
-Bachelor’s degree required (with preference for degrees related to international business, international trade, logistics or supply chain)
-Experience as a people manager
Preferences
-Licensed customs brokers or holders of other relevant trade certifications
-Advanced degrees
-Experience working with global teams
-Experience in manufacturing or high-tech companies
-Six sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
