Site Reliability Engineer

LinkedIn does web engineering at scale and is looking for excellent candidates to join our team focusing on improving end user experience and website performance. You'll configure and manage various facets of third party and in house developed measurement and monitoring tools and use the data gleaned to optimize the delivery of content to hundreds of millions of members.You'll participate in CDN and DNS configuration management and get deep exposure to the inner workings of key industry third party providers. LinkedIn seeks a self-starter, experienced engineer who is passionate about owning the measurement and management of website performance, managing third party technical relationships, creating and modifying DNS and CDN configurations. An interest in 24x7 site operations, ability to build strong relationships with peers, and the ability to organize and analyze information to draw conclusions and make decisions is required. The ideal candidate will have experience with how the internet works and have advanced skills in Linux, basic networking, and understanding the technology that drives production websites.

Responsibilities
· Manage CDN performance and drive resolution with third party providers.
· Configure monitoring tools for effective site and performance monitoring
· Participate in tool evaluation and make recommendations for implementation
· Write procedures for NOC to follow for first response in response to monitoring alerts
· Review and update documentation
· Make changes to CDN traffic steering to optimize user performance
· Add new DNS records and modify current records to meet business needs
· Develop new tools and APIs to ingest data from providers
· Develop and adhere to processes for internal support protocols
· Daily performance monitoring and actions to address open issues
· Participate in 12x7 on-call rotation for CDN, DNS, and monitoring related escalations

Required Skills & Experience
· Working Knowledge of Python to build tools and automation
· Working knowledge of HTML and JavaScript
· Knowledge of internet protocols (in practice and by RFC) – especially TCP/IP, HTTP and DNS
· Superb communication skills, both written and verbal
· Excellent planning, prioritization and project/time-management skills – especially in a cross-functional context
· Flexibility to work in a novel, dynamic and extremely fast-paced environment
· 4+ years of relevant work experience
· Bachelor’s in Engineering

Preferred Skills & Experience
· Working knowledge of Java
· Experience with CDN and DNS technology
· Experience with SSL protocols
· Strong troubleshooting skills spanning code, network, HTTP, DNS, etc.
