Information Technology Residency Program, University Graduate (Fixed Term Employee)
Greater Detroit Area, US - Information Services, Internet
We are accepting applications for our June and August 2014 programs.
Google's Information Technology Program(ITRP) is a 26-month, rotational role designed to jumpstart your career in technology. Residents will learn what it takes to support and scale Google’s technology from our corporate infrastructure to end users. Using face-to-face and remote channels, you will be helping Googlers on all sorts of challenging support cases. You will encounter a sophisticated user base working on all major desktop and mobile operating systems (Windows, OS X, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, etc). Interacting with people in all parts of the company will give you insight into a unique enterprise and corporate culture.
The IT Residency Program offers several tracks for career growth and development. Candidates will be placed in the track and location that best fits their skills and experience.
The IT Residency in Ann Arbor focuses on global remote support. At Google, we believe that a successful IT career has its foundation in user support, and this track gives you exposure to a wide range of issues by assisting Googlers around the world. You will help Google's operations evolve at scale by finding innovative ways to make support more efficient through automation and documentation. You will travel to other Google offices, domestic and abroad, to work with other partner teams. The IT Residency in New York or Mountain View focuses on in-person support in our largest US offices. In this role, you will act as a liaison between technical and non-technical groups to enhance Google's infrastructure and internal services.
The New York and Mountain View residencies include two long-term rotations. You will spend three months in a different Google office—US or abroad—learning and supporting local infrastructure and users. For your second rotation, you will work on an operations team for three months. Potential rotations include networking, development, site reliability engineering, and system administration.
Whichever path you join, we will equip you with everything you need to know to support our users, as well as skills you’ll need as a future IT leader. You will receive specialized training in networking, infrastructure and multi-platform system administration, and you will develop further skills through hands-on experience in enterprise deployment, communication technology (video and voice), hardware, software development, mobile device management and project management. Once you are well-versed in key Google technologies, you will have the opportunity to seek out innovative projects that have a visible impact on the company.
IT Residency alumni have advanced on to a variety of roles, both at Google and other top-tier technology companies, in roles such as networking, security, site reliability engineering, system administration & support.
