We are looking for a great data scientist to join our lean and mean fraud-fighting team. Our team's role is to defend LinkedIn against all known forms of malice and abuse while constantly looking out for new ones.
Responsibilities: - Design and implement automated models to detect and prevent fraud and abuse across the LinkedIn ecosystem. Research, evaluate, and implement statistical methods to track security metrics and provide actionable insights. - Investigate security incidents and recommend courses of action. - Work closely with product and engineering teams to identify and answer important questions related to security.
Requirements: - Expertise in at least one statistical analysis tool such as R, Stata, Weka, Matlab, or SciPy. - Strong technical execution capacity in a language of your choice: Perl, Python, Java, Ruby, etc. - Some experience working with large datasets, preferably using tools like SQL, Hadoop, MapReduce, Pig, or Hive. - Enough knowledge about machine learning, statistics, and information retrieval to be dangerous. - Good understanding of relevant Web technologies. - Ability to clearly communicate complex scientific and technical subjects. (Don't worry, we are not slideshow jockeys.) - Detective mind: you're always looking out for fishy activity -- everybody is a suspect. - Detective heart: when fraud is committed you take it personally, it's not just business. - Results-oriented: you prioritize, focusing on ideas and features that will have significant impact (and you know how to measure that impact). - Real creativity: you think outside the box, or better: don't even have a box. Not required but preferred: - Strong background in machine learning, statistics, information retrieval, or graph analysis. - Strong hands-on analytic experience, preferably in predictive modeling or automated decisions. - Familiarity with Unix/Linux systems, shell scripting. - Masters or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline: Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, etc. - Background in Security.
