Technical Program Manager, Display Ads Infrastructure

Canada, CA - Information Services, Internet

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

As a Technical Program Manager for the Display Ads Infrastructure team, you will be primarily responsible for managing projects in ads infrastructure. You will be involved in communicating project priorities, issues and other status, both to our leadership team and to the development teams. You will help coordinate and manage schedules across multiple teams, both locally and across other Google offices. Your position is important in helping identify blocking issues early and knowing the right set of people to involve to resolve those issues. You may work on successful execution of key software projects in these areas by facilitating a team of engineers using Agile practices like bi-weekly sprints and daily stand-ups.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate schedules, priorities, and status with engineering and product leads.

  • Develop tools and processes to measure and improve engineering productivity across the ads organization.

  • Manage various developer rotations for builds, releases, and on-calls.

  • Organize department-wide engineering events including focused 'fix-it' sprints and ads-specific training for new engineers.

  • Minimum qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3 years of experience in a technical project management role for the development of software systems in a cross-functional, cross-organizational context.

  • Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree.

  • Coding experience in one or two high level programming languages like Python or JavaScript.

  • Experience applying agile software development practices

  • Experience managing software build and release cycles

  • In-depth familiarity with one source code management system (Perforce).

  • Outstanding communication and facilitation skills.

Users come first at Google. Nowhere is this more important than on our Advertising & Commerce team: we believe that ads and commercial information can be highly useful to our users if, and only if, that information is relevant to what our users wish to find or do. Hundreds of thousands of advertisers worldwide use AdWords to promote their products; hundreds of thousands of publishers use AdSense to serve relevant ads on their website; and business around the world use our commerce products (like Google Offers, Google Shopping, and Google Wallet) to support their online businesses and bring users into their offline stores. We build and maintain the platforms that have made Google what it is today, and are constantly innovating to deliver the most effective advertising and commerce opportunities of tomorrow.
