RF Engineer, Titan Aerospace

Santa Fe, New Mexico Area, US - Information Services, Internet

Google engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a member of an extraordinarily creative, motivated and talented team, you develop new products that are used by millions of people. We need our engineers to be versatile and passionate to tackle new problems as we continue to push technology forward. If you get excited about building new things and aren't daunted by the challenge of building something from scratch, then our team might be your next career step.

Titan’s products, like other Google products, will eventually span the globe and require managers and engineers to keep the big picture in focus. As a Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer, you will help the Systems Group develop airborne and ground-based wireless communications links that will provide command and data transport, link health monitoring, signal strength, redundancy, line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight capability, and many more. You will participate in requirements planning and documentation, conceptual designs, make/buy analyses, test methodology, design documentation, anomaly tracking and resolution, peer reviews (your designs and others), design reviews, and hardware/software debugging.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement wireless communications links from requirements to production and commercial deployment.

  • Perform antenna selection, analysis, placement design, vendor selection, and overall system design and performance analysis (including latency estimates and measurements).

  • Support QA processes and Configuration Management functions.

  • Provide schedules and task progress, report and track anomalies and their mitigations/fixes.

  • Support system debugging activities and participate in design reviews.

  • Minimum qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering with specific courses in radio frequency design or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience in Propagation, Antenna theory, Link Budget, Network Topology, Network design, tuning and optimization. Experience in designing or specifying one radio frequency link that is or has been in production.

  • Experience with measurement instrumentation and test systems, including spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, analyzers for bit error rate, propagation delays, range-based bandwidth reduction including use of one software analysis program.

  • In order to access the technical and defense data necessary for this job, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or currently hold a United States Permanent Resident Card (USCIS Form I-551).

  • Preferred qualifications

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering with specific courses in radio frequency design.

  • Line-of-Sight and Beyond-Line-of-Sight (SATCOM) system experience.

  • Experience in a company that designs and builds Communication Links for UAVs. Experience in design and control of redundant systems.

  • Strong documentation and writing skills using office suite software products.

  • Active amateur radio operator (General or Extra Class).

  • Area

The Google Titan Aerospace team is a manufacturer of High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) solar-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). Titan Aerospace operates a research and development facility located in Moriarty, New Mexico, where we are working with the FAA to obtain airspace for flight testing within the National Airspace System and Special Airworthiness Certification for the Solara aircraft.
