Domain Architect
Department Description
- Overview:
Functional and Technical Domain Architects focus on achieving goals through the definition of
solution process or technical architecture and the design of domain (Merchandising, Product
Lifecycle Management, Supply Chain, Retail Finance & Audit, Stores & Customer, and Technology)
solution components. They have project lifecycle implementation experience and knowledge to lead
the end state solution design for their specialist domain. They will have demonstrated a high degree
of leadership during previous customer engagements and will operate under the guidance of the
Enterprise or Retail Architect to maintain the overarching programme requirements, reporting to the
Project Manager as part of the project team.
A Domain Architect will be part of a Customer’s Design Authority and / or Architecture Committee
representing Oracle as a thought leader and ensuring that delivery of intermediate phases / releases
impacting the Domain are consistent with the end state solution.
A Domain Architect will lead the Domain stream as an active day‐to‐day member of the project
team, assisting in the management functional delivery within the Domain leveraging the expertise of
product specialists and subject
Requirements:
- Strategy
- Maintain knowledge of technology relevant to all Oracle Retail products within the Domain, including infrastructure, integration, security, etc.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the Oracle Retail Reference Model and Retail Reference
- Architecture, and contribute to the maintenance of current processes within the Domain.
- Demonstrate in‐depth knowledge of the business processes or technology in their specialist
- Domain with high level expertise of all Oracle Retail products within the Domain, understanding data flow, dependencies, and the process fit of each product.
- Maintain a broad understanding of the other Oracle Retail product offerings and industry solutions to support retail organisations.
- Continuously develop their knowledge, and be able to demonstrate a wide breadth of skills across the entire Oracle Retail Solution and specifically within the Domain.
Solution Development
- Provide Domain input to develop a feasible and risk managed deployment strategy.
- Support solution design, business process definition through Level 2 (with understanding of L3 and L4), risk execution, gap resolution and issue resolution.
- Ability to Support the customer in developing and agreeing deployment strategy to meet their prioritised business requirements/benefits.
- Work with the Architects and Product Specialists to ensure that Oracle Retail methodology is applied appropriately to all Oracle Retail led projects.
- Engage and coordinate the product specialists in the solution design when appropriate.
- Develop approach/plan to deliver
- Recommend and demonstrate how best to use Oracle Retail Solutions to meet a customer’s changing business needs.
- Lead conceptual/detailed design sessions to review the customer’s business process requirements against the Oracle’s Retail Reference Model and Retail Reference Architecture.
- Lead the resolution of gaps with an emphasis on business process solutions and consistency of the total design.
- Work with the Product Specialists to gather and document business requirement and translate them to a total solution with configuration specifications.
- Provide thought leadership and expertise on common practices and use/implementation of Oracle Retail Solutions.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of core Retail Business Processes and demonstrate extensive knowledge of the products within the domain.
Leadership
- Provide thought leadership, recommending/providing common practices on business process design within the scope of the project and in accordance with the specific Oracle Retail solutions in use.
- Work with other Architects, Specialists and Project Manager to ensure that project issues are resolved in a manner consistent with the end solution.
- Lead highly interactive workshops requiring a blend of strong analytical, communication, problem solving and technical skills.
- Lead teams assigned to carry out Phase‐end Reviews to ensure that the level of testing is sufficiently detailed, that the configuration supports or is aligned to the end state solution, and that the implemented system functions are in accordance with design.
- Lead teams through functional process stream of the CRP including business/functional workshops, gap resolution, business process design, etc. reporting to the Project Manager.
- Demonstrate excellent presentation and facilitation skills with the confidence and ability to present to board level.
- Actively coach other consultants on areas of expertise.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership skills.
- Actively lead development of consulting training (business process, product knowledge, methodology improvement, building consultative skills, managing Oracle administrative processes, etc.) and working with Practice Managers provide training for Oracle consultants.
Delivery Project Responsibilities
- Ensure the solution being implemented by each project phase is consistent with the end state solution set out in the solution design.
- Provide Deployment Strategy plan and guidance to customers and colleagues on Internal and
- External Test Strategy and Plans, and customer training if necessary.
- Provide specialist support to implementation teams (Oracle, SI or customer) in the resolution of business process and architecture issues impacting the end solution.
- Provide support to customers through the build of the cut‐over plan.
- Undertake Quality Assurance & Quality Control activities.
Business Development
- Support Presales activities (Licence Sales), Business Development and Engagement Directors in developing bid proposals, including presentations to potential customers.
- Advise Business Development of up‐sell or cross‐sell service opportunities, and contribute to the creation of a proposal if required.
- Provide ideas and input to Product Strategy and Research & Development for future product releases.
- Provide ideas and input to consulting exercises aimed at developing and improving Service
- Offers, methodology, tools or collateral.
- Assist in the maintenance of the consulting library of implementation material and functional documentation.
Administration
- Regularly self‐assess skills to identify areas for improvement and create and deploy an action plan for personal development.
- Actively lead development of consulting training (business process, product knowledge, methodology improvement, building consultative skills, managing Oracle administrative process,etc.) and actively provide coaching to Oracle Architects and Specialists.
- Complete required weekly administrative tasks including individual status report and time/expense entry.
- Demonstrate ability to manage time and multiple concurrent activities, deadlines and projects.
