Senior Technical Support Engineer - Communications Suites

Global Business Unit provides software and services spanning the entire communication systems landscape. The Global Software Support team provides support to for products developed by the CGBU to ensure 24x7 operation of mission critical systems.

1. Unified Communications Suite involves multiple products ( Messaging Server, Address Book, Calendar, Convergence, Instant Messaging / Chat) - Working knowledge of Directory Server (DS) and Glass Fish helps. - Communications Suite needs Glassfish, Directory Server - CalDav or Calendar 7 needs MySQL, Oracle DB , Glassfish and DS

2. Breakout - Messaging requires: awareness of protocols: IMAP, POP, SMTP, LMTP, Knowledge of IMTA , Message store, Brightmail - Calendar: CalDav RFC 4791, MySQL awareness helps - Also, knowledge of WCAP ( Web Calendar Access Protocol) - NO need to know MySQL in depth. Calender uses MySQL DB. Any knowledge helps in this regard.

3. Good candidates and engineers in the space have the following skills:

A. Basically, technically skilled, analytical thinking, problem solving minded, interested in (or better having a passion for) the products, and good knowledge of the underlying operating systems (mainly Solaris and Linux, also some windows for the Outlook Connector part). Engineers that have previous support experience, i.e. knowing how to deal with demanding customers, is an asset.

Also people that know the tools already have some advantage, although using the tools can be learned in a few weeks

- 10 years support experience on Unix or 10 years Unix sysadmin experience.

- BA degree in computer science or equivalent experience with above, we should be able to get them up to speed in under a year.

B. In addition:

- 5 years experience supporting email systems

- familiarity with C, C++, and/or Java a plus

- familiarity with Perl a plus - Other: javascript, dojo, web development

C. Major Pluses:

1- Any experience in implementation/engineering (technical pre-sales, SE, or ProServe) is a plus

2- Having a specific strength that relates to a product area (Web FE hacking, strong understanding of file systems and storage, managing a real, significant Solaris deployment).
