We are looking for highly skilled, self-motivated, exceptional Systems Engineer to help us scale our organization and our infrastructure in support of a rapidly growing business. This position will be part of our Systems Operations team, focused specifically on evaluating new server hardware and working with development teams to improve performance.

The individual hired for this role should have experience with benchmarking tools, summarizing performance results through visual presentations, performance tuning, and qualifying new hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice on selecting new hardware platforms and upgrades to existing platforms
  • Qualify new hardware to ensure compatibility with existing tools, processes, and applications
  • Benchmark hardware performance using repeatable processes and create visual reports comparing results
  • Work with development teams to measure application performance and recommend improvements
  • Assist in updates to tools to support new hardware and new configurations
  • 24/7 emergency response, participate in on-call rotation


Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in a Unix environment (Linux preferred).
  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years performing hardware diagnostics or system administration
  • Familiarity with RAID concepts, x86 server architecture, TCP/IP networking, and related technologies
  • Benchmarking with common tools such as sysbench, bonnie++, ssdbench, iozone, etc
  • Demonstrated experience putting together summary reports and visual presentations of the results of benchmarks and performance tests.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Development experience in Python, Perl, or Bash
  • Deep understanding of Linux filesystems, CPU and memory performance tuning, Java optimization, or similar
  • Experience with Linux CGroups, containers, kernel tuning and related technologies
  • Experience using specialized benchmarking tools such as SpecJVM, PARSEC, Phoronix
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience with Excel
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
