Float Pool Medical Assistant - Oakwood Physicians Integrated

Dell Services has partnered with Oakwood and we are currently looking for a Medical Assistant to join our float pool team working at any one of our ambulatory centers and/or physician practices throughout the metro-Detroit area (Dearborn, Canton, Westland, Trenton, Belleville, etc.).
E mployment for float pool team members is continuous and consistent, but your work location will change from time to time, depending on need.
Medical Assistants that work in the float pool must be quick learners and must easily adapt to new working environments. Ideal float pool candidates will have strong interpersonal skills and a strong desire to learn. Float pool employees should expect to work 36-40 hours per week, and must have some flexibility in their schedule; shifts may start as early as 7:30am and end anywhere from 3pm-7pm.
Under the supervision of a licensed provider/nurse, and in accordance with established policy and procedures, performs a wide range of direct and indirect patient care activities. Responsible for clinical duties including but not limited to: taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and medication administration. Also responsible for regulatory agency compliance, collecting patient history, and effectively relaying instructions from Provider to patients/families/caregivers.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
· In all encounters, demonstrate caring, compassion, and sensitivity to others; utilize performance improvement plans to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction
· Daily decisions and actions demonstrate engagement and sense of job ownership regarding desired business outcomes – high patient satisfaction and safety, optimal productivity, and high employee morale
· Consistently demonstrate competency in job required skills; attend mandatory training programs and maintain BLS certification
· Verbalize knowledge of, and participate in, emergency management exercises
· Ensure functionality, maintenance, and sterilization of medical equipment
· Participate in maintaining continuous accreditation readiness
· Provide a pleasant and comfortable environment; demonstrate respect and maintain patient’s dignity and confidentiality
· Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exam
· Actively participate in site/department meetings and mentor new employees if appropriate
· Complete all annual learning modules, as assigned, prior to their due dates
· Accurately perform and document patient care services
· Demonstrate knowledge of medical record organization and documentation
· Perform business office functions (clerical, environmental, and organizational) under the supervision of the Practice Manager or Supervisor
· Perform routine clinical functions under the supervision of a licensed provider/nurse
· Clinical duties can include but are not limited to: completion of a pain screening, record height, weight, and vital signs, explain procedures to patients, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests (waived testing) on the premises, sterilize medical instruments, promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, prepare and administer medications as directed by physician, authorize drug refills as directed by the physician, telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy, draw blood, prepare patients for x-rays, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and other duties as assigned by the Physician, the Practice Manager/Supervisor, and/or the Clinical Manager/Coordinator
· If working as a scribe, you must also:
o Assist the provider in navigating the EHR/EMR
o Respond to various messages as directed by the provider
o Locate information for review (i.e. previous notes, reports, rest results, and lab results)
o Enter information into the EHR/EMR as directed by the provider
o Research information as requested by the provider
Qualifications
Minimum Education Requirements:
· Must have 1+ years work experience as a Medical Assistant
· Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent
· Completion of a clinical Medical Assistant program (documented proof required); certification with the AAMA or AMT is preferred (CMA/RMA)
· Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or within 60 days of hire
Minimum Skills and Duty Requirements:
· Must be able to pass a Clinical Skills Assessment screening during the interview process
· Must be able to pass a basic Medication Administration pre-test during the interview process
· Must be able to pass all applicable Medication Administration exams with a score of 90% or better, in no more than 2 attempts per exam, within the first 30 days of employment
· Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies
· Must be able to multi-task
· Must be able to work collaboratively and seamlessly with all Dell and Oakwood personnel alike
· Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel between all OPi healthcare centers as requested
· If working as a scribe, you must also:
o Have strong computer and writing skills
o Be able to quickly and accurately type
o Have the ability to correctly spell medical terminology
