Program Manager, Localization Tools and Process Improvement

You are an excellent communicator who plays a strategic role by building relationships with partner teams to establish needs, deadlines and budgets. You will flex your project management skills in order to ensure that our Localization process runs effectively and efficiently.



You project manage localization for your product(s) from inception to launch, including resource allocation, scheduling and risk management. You work with engineers, product managers, content authors and marketing managers to deliver Google's international site content and products on time and with high linguistic quality.



As Google continues to expand its reach around the world, our Localization team makes the company's ideas and products look, feel and sound right in every country where people use our services and products. Google has more than 100 products, available in more than 60 languages, and we're adding more content, products and languages all the time.



As part of a Google global operation, we continually tweak or re-invent our processes and technology to achieve faster, cost-effective localization with the highest quality.



As a Program Manager, you will lead the analysis of different aspects of our localization process and tools and guide the deployment of improvements in efficiency or quality. This could imply crystallizing a strategy for our top management and leading through its execution, or acting as a product manager for internal tools, guiding the work of a team engineers to see your ideas come to fruition.



Possible projects may include leading strategy for innovative translation processes, managing features for products/tools to improve our productivity, re-designing quality controls, leading projects across multiple departments, or using your analytical skills to picture and present data-driven insights for our executives.



Responsibilities


  • Work across groups and departments to identify areas for improvement.

  • Negotiate and reach alignment with all stakeholders on a plan, and then lead through its execution.

  • Work through our data sources and analyze Google’s Localization strategy to present data-driven strategy and insights for improvement to senior management. Lead the execution of your plan to achieve improvements.

  • Act as a product manager for internal tools that leverage technology to improve our efficiency: define features, create mocks for engineers, work with the technical architect to define a structure that scales to business needs, manage timelines and deliveries.

  • Act as a business and process improvement consultant across the organization, spending time with business owners and users, building knowledge about the overall operation and reaching agreement on strategies for improvement.





  • Minimum qualifications

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.





  • Preferred qualifications

  • MA/MS/MBA degree.

  • Experience deploying complex software solutions that required both technology and process re-invention.

  • Customer-facing experience: gathering requirements from enterprise users and crystallizing them into a process or software solutions.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
