As an Engineering Intern, you will join our SlideShare team in building a great site and excellent software. You will use Ruby and Puppet extensively but if you aren’t familiar with these programs, no worries, we’ll teach you! You will be responsible for dozens of code deployments per day which means you will ship code WHENEVER your feature is ready. Be prepared to ship on day one!

Responsibilities:

• Applications: Build user-centric online applications, scaling performance and 24x7 reliability
• Front-End Engineering: Build client web components (HTML, CSS, Javascript, JSP, YUI/JQuery) and server-side presentation tier in Java, JRuby, or Grails
• Mobile: Build native and HTML5 applications for Android, iPhone, and iPad
• Systems and Infrastructure: Build massive scalability infrastructure and storage solutions
• Data Analytics, Data Mining and Machine Learning: Draw insights from our massive semi-structure and graph datasets
• Tools: Develop internal command line and web based tools to automate development, deployment, management and monitoring of our 24x7 online site

Basic Qualifications:

●Actively pursuing a BS/MS degree or PhD in computer science or related field
●Experience with Ruby on Rails, Python or Java
●Experience with front-end technologies like JavaScript, CSS, HTML, etc.
●Experience with systems administration
●Experience with relational database design and administration

Preferred Qualifications:

●Experience working with open-source technologies either professionally or on your own
●Solid foundation in computer science with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, software design and problem solving
●Excellent communication, teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to work with an Agile development methodology
●Ability to thrive in a UNIX environment and pick up new technologies quickly
