Engineering Technologist Sr. Engineer - Database Domain Expert - North America - Remote position

Role Overview
We are looking for a Database Domain Expert who is going to become the lead strategist and architect for database technology in our Engineering department (Dell Software Group – Information Management). You are going to work with our Toad, SharePlex, and Spotlight product families. You are going to be responsible for assimilation and understanding of the industry, customers’ pain points, and competitive environment in order to derive a technology/product strategy from this information. You will lead technology investigations, perform strategic analysis of the industry capabilities, and develop recommendations, which influence the technical product strategy and/or definition of products for a given product line including evaluation of potential acquisitions and vendor partner opportunities.
Role Responsibilities
-Develops database technology strategies and product ideas based on the technical and business information, and customer input
-Identifies and develops differentiation opportunities, provides technical information and makes recommendations to engineering, product management, marketing, customers, and business executives
-Hosts regular technology reviews with the development teams, executives, vendors, partners, and customers.
-Takes a leading role in strategic technical forums and meetings on a regular and consistent schedule
-Assists engineering as required when working tactical/time-to-market development issues
-Supports Customer briefings and presents technical data on Dell’s product and industry direction in a convincing and authoritative form
-Responsible for generating intellectual property
-Provides expertise on multiple technologies/products
-Takes the lead in shaping future products
Qualifications
Requirements
-Requires in depth knowledge of database systems. The successful applicant will have a firm grasp of the modern data management landscape and will be able to clearly identify and articulate the key technology and market trends that should influence the direction of Dell’s database tools portfolio. Deep familiarity with Oracle specifically as well as other relational databases will be expected, together with a solid understanding of non-relational and emerging database technologies.
-Holds recognized industry certification – Oracle ACE, MCSE, or others
-Has a proven track record of engagement in industry forums
Preferences
-4+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience
-Owner of multiple or highly complex technologies. Ability to work on assignments where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making choices, recommendations, or decisions
-Ability to travel within US and internationally
