Software Engineer Manager II - Madison, WI

We are looking for someone to take a leadership role within Dell Software’s Windows Management Software Group. This group is building commercial software which simplifies and improves the migration of critical enterprise data. The position involves development management for specific software products while also working across the entire group to ensure continual process improvement and operational efficiency.

Roles Responsibilities



-Responsible for technical development management of multiple products and projects



-Create detailed development plans, prioritize work assignments and assign projects based on available resources



-Oversee the implementation of strategic priorities as concrete deliverables



-Provide guidance within agile and scrum methodologies to team members to help them achieve team goals.



-Collaborate constantly with a diverse team of smart developers, testers, tech writers, support engineers, marketing managers, product managers and other business partners



-Continuously optimize and manage R&D operations



-Set clear objectives for direct reports and compare deliverables against objectives



-Deliver appropriate and timely career development for team members



-Grow and retain your teams



-Manage day-to-day decisions of project teams, including bug priorities, work assignments and work sequencing



Qualifications



Requirements



-10+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the commercial software development environment



-4+ years leadership/managerial experience in a software development environment



-Proven leadership/management skills and the ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of professionals capable of achieving aggressive business goals and objectives



-Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% or more



-Knowledge and experience executing industry standard software best practices, development lifecycle processes, agile, test-first development (TDD/BDD), software build and scrum methodologies



-You have strong knowledge, understanding and hands-on experience with the tools used throughout the software development lifecycle



-Strong knowledge, understanding and hands-on experience with project scheduling, estimation and associated tools



-A broad range of knowledge in the overall design, function and technical characteristics of .NET development on the Windows platform, relational and NoSQL databases, and Windows Services is required



-Strong knowledge of quality assurance and software testing best principles, practices, and policies



Preferences



-Undergraduate degree (BA/BS preferred) and 6-8 years relevant experience; or graduate degree and 4-6 years relevant experience; or experience equivalent to a 4-year university education with an emphasis in Computer Science or an engineering field and 8-10 years relevant experience



-Experience managing outsourcing providers and offshore development teams a plus



-Experience with single-page web GUI, PowerShell, Angular.js, interaction design, Node.js, Git and TFS Test Manager a huge plus



-Involvement in an open source initiative
