Partner Engineer - Hadoop

All LinkedIn data flows through Hadoop. You will help our scientists and analysts exploit that data using Hadoop technologies: MapReduce, Pig, Hive, and the next great thing. Our Hadoop users have created features such as People You May Know, and the analysis that drives our products. The growing user community needs committed help to be great. This position will be the first point of contact for our users. You will help them understand how to use Hadoop methods efficiently and robustly in the multi-tenant physical environment. You will be their advocate with the Hadoop Development and Operations teams. Responsibilities Be familiar with how LinkedIn uses and manages large data sets. Help scientists, engineers and analysts deploy Hadoop-based solutions at LinkedIn. Provide technical training and documentation. Resolve technical difficulties in cooperation with the Development and Operations teams. Be knowledgeable about new technologies and be able to advise how best to use them. Lead the review of applications destined for our production clusters. Create and run demonstration programs using each of the Hadoop frameworks. Analyze the run-time performance of Hadoop applications. Invent tools, methods and processes to aid your other responsibilities. Minimum qualifications Special enthusiasm for helping others be successful. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical degree. Competence in a programming language such as Java or C++. Experience using Hadoop tools and methods. Experience creating or using distributed applications that process or manage large data sets. Excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare instructional materials and to present training lectures, demonstrations and workshops. Experience with run-time performance tools and analysis. Preferred qualifications Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical degree. Curiosity to explain confusing and unexpected behavior. Experience with source code management applications.
