Google

Global Manager, Metro Field Support

Dallas/Fort Worth Area, US - Information Services, Internet

Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services.

Google's network, like our users, spans the globe and requires managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to drive scalability, continuous improvement, and consistent delivery against aggressive SLAs (Service Level Agreements). As the Global Field Services Manager, you will use your broad and deep background in telecommunications and field operations management to lead a team in providing physical installation, deployment, testing, repair, and maintenance support for all Google teams requiring support in all of Google’s metro points of presence.

You will build a team of experienced high performing field technicians supporting Google’s top metro markets globally. You will negotiate and manage contracts with local vendors or internal field organizations to deliver on behalf of Google’s Network Operations teams. You will drive consistently outstanding outcomes with regard to interval and quality. Every installation, deployment, repair, maintenance, or test will be delivered fast and with the highest degree of quality as possible from dressing fiber and cable to labeling standards and documentation. You are a steward of Google’s common network inventory, responsible for maintaining the highest level of data integrity. You will measure and monitor current performance against SLAs and continuously improve the processes and performance driving toward our very aggressive interval, quality, and cost metrics.

You have a passion for building high performing teams and driving scalable processes and standards into a global operation. You have a strong bias toward action, while also recognizing the value of cost control and careful planning in a production environment. You are a strong, charismatic leader who takes pride in helping others succeed and are equally adept at leading teams and influencing groups not directly under your supervision. You will work closely with the Network Operations, Project Management, Tools Development and Contracting/Procurement teams to provide a seamless and reliable expansion of the Google network that benefits both internal and external customers.
