Network Test Engineer, Google Access/Fiber

As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services.



As a Network Test Engineer in the Google Fiber team, you will work with the other test engineers, network engineers, product managers and technical leaders in ensuring that our next generation FTTH network and applications are delivering the best possible service to our customers.



Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, and execute test plans for networking features, equipment, and systems.

  • Contribute to the design of new access and home networking systems.

  • Work with developing test automation tools.

  • Work with development teams to develop software and hardware systems.

  • Work with other Google groups and external suppliers to ensure a consistent test approach and a culture of continuous improvement. Platform and system testing, scalability testing and performance testing.





  • Minimum Qualifications



  • BS in Computer Science or related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience with standard L2/L3 protocols such as IGP, LACP, STP, RSTP, VRRP, UDLD, 802.1x, etc.

  • Experience in access network protocols, 802.1ad, PIM/IGMP, QoS.

  • Network Automation Engineer with experience in development framework, network platform, software testing and in scripting languages such as Python.





  • Preferred Qualifications



    Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience or familiarity with testing and automation of IOS-XR or Junos based platforms.

  • Experience in Linux, C/C++ and scripting skills.

  • Experience with end-to-end system testing.

  • Experience involving manual and automated testing using test platforms such as IXIA or Spirent.

  • Understanding of networking systems including TCP/IP, Ethernet, IPv4 and IPv6.

  • Knowledge of Service Provider Networks and Protocols such as BGP, ISIS, RSVP, LDP, MPLS, L3VPN, L2VPN etc.
