Position Description:
SunGard provides solutions for the insurance industry in each of the following major business lines: life and health, annuities and pensions, property and casualty, reinsurance and asset management. SunGard's software and services support functions from the front-office through the back-office, from customer service, policy administration and actuarial calculations to financial and investment accounting and reporting. The candidate must have the ability to thrive in a highly collaborative and fast paced environment and can clearly demonstrate hands-on experience on designing and managing production databases. The candidate also must demonstrate good understanding of Sql Server database architecture and its internal workings. As a Sql Server Data Architect, you will play an important role in the following:

* Capacity planning based on our products and future growth

* Help set database strategy by looking at ways to improve availability, scalability, and recoverability leveraging new or existing technologies

* Participate in sprint teams to work on data modeling and application data access.

* Provide support and consultation to application developers

* Research, suggest, and/or deploy alternative database solutions, designs, third party tools, etc. to solve or prevent problems

* Explore different database technologies in our environment, e.g. NoSQL, Azure Sql, and Oracle

* Perform database tuning and performance monitoring, including identifying and correcting poorly performing queries/procedures/triggers, inefficient schema design, and optimizing logic



Position Requirements:
* BS degree in computer science or equivalent experience

* 5+ years of database administration experience

* Good understanding of the Sql Server database, related utilities and tools

* Good knowledge of the physical database design

* Experience with Sql Server database replication mechanisms.

* Good understanding of Sql Server database architecture and internals

* A good understanding of the underlying operating system

* Ability to perform both Sql Server and operating system performance tuning and monitoring

* Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle

* Should have the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines

* Areas of expertise that are a huge plus: o Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2008R2/2012 o Experience with Clustering on Microsoft Windows Server 2008R2/2012 o Experience supporting a SaaS environment o Experience in performance tuning such as optimizing stored procedures, views, indexes, triggers, etc. o Experience with SQL server partitioning o Strong experience with SQL Server Profiler and SSMS o Knowledge of highly available database architectures and infrastructure planning o Experience building highly scalable federated database architectures o Knowledge or keen aware of emerging database technologies o Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment o Familiarity with Oracle Database o Experience with NoSQL o Microsoft .net platform knowledge is a plus o Good communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in development process o Certified Microsoft Sql Server DBA; nice to have
