As a member of the Data Center Compute team, this Sr. Systems Engineer will act as a senior technical resource for the group. Responsibilities will center around high-level planning and implementation of projects related to backups, business continuity and disaster recovery at LinkedIn. This role will also create awareness about capabilities, risks, health of the infrastructure and manage expectations of all stakeholders. The successful candidate will be able to take LinkedIn’s enterprise applications from single points of failure to robust active/active and active/passive configurations.



Responsibilities:

• Design, manage, and automate backups of server and endpoint systems


• Create monitoring dashboards indicating backup health and gaps


• Provide leadership in the design and architecture to failover all critical and mid-range applications, and coordinate disaster recovery testing of critical applications with application owners


• Create, update, and manage tools for automation, including development of scripts using various vendor and in-house APIs


• Develop and execute on project plans for DR / BC initiatives


• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members


• Act as a technical escalation point as issues arise

Requirements:

• 4+ Years experience with server, hypervisor and endpoint backup systems


• Experience creating scripts and/or dashboards to poll data from various backup systems for reporting


• Understanding and experience in defining Service Level Agreements, RTO / RPO, and measuring metrics to support


• 2+ Years experience in conducting or participating in DR drills


• 4+ years in IT, 2+ specifically related backups and/or DR / BC


• 2+ years supporting DR/backups in a medium-to-large enterprise


• Solid understanding of datacenter networking


• Solid understanding of datacenter storage technologies


• BS in Computer Science or related discipline
